The Centre For Girls is proud to present HEARTLANDscapes: A Multi-Arts cultural exchange designed to engage and connect children (9-14 years old) from Tampa, FL and Pelican Gate School located in the British Virgin Islands (Tortola)!

These young people will utilize various art disciplines to explore their role as global citizens and learn about the interconnectedness of diverse people and places. Sponsored in part by the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs and the Florida Council on Arts and Culture.

The participants were able to identify unique components of their city and communicated them through creative illustrations.  The culmination of these workshops consisted of the youth writing letters introducing themselves to students at Pelican Gate School located in the British Virgin Islands (Tortola).  The colorful project taught and reinforced the importance of diversity and how art can be used as a bridge to foster clarity and understanding.  The participants are eagerly looking forward to hearing back from their counterparts in Tortola!
